What is a scar?
When skin is injured our body makes collagen to fill the gap. This collagen is like a cement patch. There are no pores and sweat glands within this patch, making it look different from the normal surrounding skin. Therefore, to achieve the most natural look this patch should be as small as possible. Scarguard helps our skin reduce scars.

How long does scar healing take?
It can take as long as one or two years for some scars to achive their final appearance. In the first three months most scars appear pink. This is due to an overgrowth of blood vessels within the area, which is intended to help bring a better blood supply for healing. After healing has completed, these blood vessels usually shrink and the color usually fades. After that, the remaining scar will slowly shrink if normal healing occurs.

Why are some scars thicker than others?
As skin heals, too much collagen is intentionally made. An enzyme called collagenase melts the extra collagen and the body tries to leave only what is needed for the repair. If the healing cells do not make enough collagenase, too much collagen is left. This will result in a thick scar.

Can we make a thick scar look better?
Scarguard MD® contains the ingredients often recommended by doctors to improve scar appearance in an easy-to-use to use form. It will help shrink old thick scars or help prevent thickening of newly forming scars.

What is Scarguard MD®?
Scarguard MD® is a clear liquid that quickly dries to a thin film that helps to reduce the appearance of thick and overgrown scars or reduce newly forming scar tissue.

Why is Scarguard MD® different?
Scarguard MD® is the only product that we know of that combines silicone, cortisone, and vitamin E into one easy to use product that forms a clear protective film over a scar while it heals. It is clinically proven to be effective.

How long has Scarguard MD® been on the market?
Scarguard MD® has been used since 2001 by plastic surgeons and is now available to you without a prescription!

What about scar removal creams and gels?
Many creams and gels would work if you could actually use them, the problem is they are messy and get all over your clothing. Once they are in the clothing, they are no longer on the skin and therefore not very effective. Some creams are not based upon science and do not even have any drug facts panel on the box! Scarguard is based upon solid science in an easy-to-use format.

How long should Scarguard MD® be used?
Scarguard MD® should be applied twice daily. Typically, patients use it for two to four months. Please consult the Drug Facts Panel on the packaging for directions on use.

Should I use it on fresh wounds?
Scarguard MD® should not be put on surgical or traumatic wounds before the skin has closed. Typically it is started 2 weeks after surgery, but check with your doctor regarding this use.

Can Scarguard MD® be used on children?
Do not use on children under 2. For use on children from 2 to 12, please consult a physician. Precautions must be taken to avoid getting into the eyes or mouth.

Can Scarguard MD® be used during pregnancy?
Scarguard MD® should not be used during pregnancy.

What about scar removal creams that work on all scars? Thick and raised, thin and sunken?
It is illogical to think that raised scars and sunken scars could possibly be helped by the same product. Be suspect of any product that claims to help thick and raised scars as well as sunken scars like acne scars and stretch marks. These are OPPOSITE problems!

How long does it take to ship my Scarguard MD®?
Under normal circumstances, orders are usually shipped within 24 hours. Friday and weekend orders are shipped Monday. To actually receive your Scarguard will take from 2 to 8 days unless you choose a faster service.

Is Scarguard MD® available locally?
Scarguard MD® is currently available in thousands of Plastic Surgeons' and Dermatologists' offices as well as pharmacies nationwide. It can also be ordered on this website as it is available without a prescription.

Why does Scarguard have a distinct scent when first applying?
Scarguard MD® has a distinctive odor. This odor is from the antiseptic that acts to cleanse the skin before forming it's protective coating. Within a short time the smell is completely gone.

Will it help my scar?
Will It work for......
  • Stretch Marks?
  • A brand new scar that is healing?
  • A scar that is very old?
  • A large scar?
  • Acne Scars?
  • A thick or raised scar?
  • A scar due to a specific operation?
Scarguard helps the appearance of overgrown scars, whether they are newly formed or have been there for decades. Thousands of Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologist routinely offer Scarguard to their patients after surgery or injury. Scarguard will help the appearance of acne scars only if they are raised. It is not recommended for acne scars that are sunken in. If you have acne scars or questions about another type of scar, please consult your dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Scarguard will not help stretch marks or scars that are only flat and discolored. Stretch marks have TOO LITTLE tissue already. Be suspect of a scar product claiming to help them.

Should I start using Scarguard MD® right after my surgery?
Scarguard should not be put on an open wound. Wait until the skin has closed. Then, apply it twice daily, as directed BY YOUR SURGEON. Patients then typically use the product for two to four months.

Will Scarguard help existing, sunken scars?
Unfortunately, no. Scarguard is designed to shrink and flatten raised scars. It will not fill or even out sunken ones.

What about stretch marks?
No. Scarguard MD® shrinks and flattens raised scars. It can not erase stretch marks.
